TIPS FOR TANNING

Whether you decide on indoor or sunless tanning, it is important for you to understand the following tips for before and after your tanning sessions in order for you to get the most out of your tan.

INDOOR TANNING PREPARATION TIPS:

Exfoliate:

You should ideally exfoliate every day of the week preceding your tanning session. When you exfoliate, you remove dead skin cells to create a smooth surface for your new tan. To do this, use a body pouf and scrub the skin with a gentle soap. You can also use a commercial kit available at most drug stores or beauty outlets.

Apply Lotion:

Before the actual tanning session, make sure you apply in-door tanning lotion. This preps your skin for the session and maximizes its effectiveness. Apply the lotion with a circular movement across your entire body to achieve an even tan. Do not use outdoor tanning lotions, as they can damage the indoor equipment.

What to Wear:

Check with your salon to learn about any tanning bed clothing requirements. Follow these, or decide whether you feel most comfortable in a bathing suit, undergarments, or nothing at all. Make sure to remove all jewelry prior to the session, protect your eyes with goggles, and avoid all perfumes and makeup.

MAKE YOUR SPRAY TAN LAST LONGER:

Exfoliate Your Skin:

Before your spray tan appointment, you need to exfoliate your skin the night before. Using a gentle exfoliator will remove dead skin and prepare your skin for better coverage from the spray tan.

Arrive with Clean Skin:

Another way on how to make your spray tan last longer is coming to your spray tan appointment without wearing makeup, lotion, or other products that create a barrier on the skin. This will make it easier for the spray to sink into your skin better and actually last.

Moisturizing is Key:

While you shouldn’t use lotion or moisturizer prior to your spray tan appointment, you should moisturize days before and after your tan. There are a number of tanning products that offer great hydration and keep your spray tan looking great for days.

Resist Showering:

It might seem like a good idea to take a shower right after your spray tan, but it’s important to resist that urge. The spray tan needs time to absorb into the skin, so skipping a shower for five or more hours will ensure your tan stays intact for days after your appointment.
